Description
An iconic Bordeaux-style blend born from the partnership between Baron Philippe de Rothschild and Robert Mondavi, Opus One 2021 represents one of Napa Valley’s most prestigious and age-worthy wines. Crafted predominantly from Cabernet Sauvignon with Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Merlot, and Malbec, it combines Napa richness with Bordeaux elegance.
In the glass, it shows a deep, inky ruby-purple color. The nose is highly refined and expressive, revealing layers of blackcurrant, blackberry, and black cherry, lifted by violet florals, cedar, graphite, vanilla, and delicate baking spices. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, structured, and exceptionally polished. Pure cassis and dark berry fruit are framed by fine-grained tannins and vibrant acidity, giving both power and precision. Secondary notes of dark chocolate, licorice, espresso, and crushed stone emerge with air, adding depth and complexity.
The finish is long, focused, and elegant, with lingering dark fruit, mineral tension, and silky tannins. The 2021 vintage is considered highly age-worthy, with excellent balance and the potential to evolve beautifully over decades.
